Meet Your Home Inspection Team
Eric Parent
Having grown up with a father who’s spent much of his time on construction and renovation projects of various homes and buildings, Eric learned many aspects of home repairs and renovations. By his early teens, he had already aquired skills and knowledge in plumbing, electrical, framing, drywall, concrete, HVAC, and more. These skills were exercised and honed throughout his teenage years and early twenties while he worked on various renovation and home repair jobs.
Eric has taken courses in construction technology at Algonquin College and civil engineering at Carleton University. After having completed two years of on-the-job training between 2000 and 2002, under the guidance of Marc Parent, Eric began conducting inspections on his own through our sister company, M.E. Parent & Assoc Inc. Since then he has conducted the inspections of several thousands of buildings ranging from condominium apartments and single-family homes, to multi-unit apartment buildings and lakefront cottages.
In 2008, Parent Inspections Inc. was formed, which became solely responsible for building inspection services, allowing M.E. Parent & Assoc Inc. to focus on engineering consulting projects. Shortly after its formation, Eric took over the company, with Marc Parent and Christine Joiner as associates, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Marc Parent
Marc Parent is a professional civil engineer, licensed in the province of Ontario, who graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Ottawa in 1970, and a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of London, in London, England, in 1972. He is also a Registered Home Inspector in Ontario and carries out home inspection services on a full-time basis. He has completed over 20,000 inspections in the past 39 years.
Prior to becoming a full-time home inspector, Marc worked with various civil engineering-related organizations on a multitude of projects. Some of his work includes a three-year post, designing and supervising the expansion of the sewage treatment facilities at the Green Creek Pollution Control Centre in Ottawa, an eight-year post in the research division of the CMHC, various smaller projects with the consulting engineering firm of Buchan, Lawton, Parent Ltd., and assisting in the marketing of the new Canadian Centre for Materials in Construction at the National Research Council’s Ottawa Campus, on Montreal Road.
Due to his extensive experience and engineering background, Marc occasionally conducts follow-up inspections and engineering consultations for other home inspectors in the region. “In recent years I’ve been doing more and more complicated and specialized jobs. They tend to call me in when there’s an issue which requires further investigation.” Marc has therefore built a reputation as being one of the most knowledgeable and experienced inspectors in the region.
Christine Joiner
Christine has been with the team since 1982, when M.E. Parent & Assoc Inc. was formed. Christine is the heart of the office, always providing a warm and friendly atmosphere. Her duties consist primarily of preparing our home inspection reports, but she also performs other tasks such as transcribing professional letters, answering phones, and responding to emails from clients and colleagues.
Christine is fluently bilingual and has a particular good formal command of the French language. She is therefore known for her French inspection reports and often translates documents for Eric, as Eric’s French grammar is less than perfect and rather “informal”. Over the years, Christine has gotten to know many of the real estate professionals whom we’ve often worked with, and all who’ve gotten to know Christine have always complimented her friendly and charming personality.
“There’s nothing I enjoy more than knowing that my work, my advice, has helped someone. I often do pro-bono work for people in tough situations, homeowners who don’t know who to talk to for good unbiased advice. That’s why I never charge anything to anyone who calls or emails me in search of help with their home.”
